Stamps Honor Distinguished Marines

In this week’s “Intelligence Report,” Lyric Wallwork Winik writes that the U.S. Postal Service will honor four legendary Marines with new stamps. Below is more on the celebrations of the stamps’ release on Thursday, Nov. 10, and information on how to order them:

The stamps immortalize four Marines: John Basilone, Daniel Joseph Daly, John A. Lejeune and Lewis “Chesty” Puller. The main celebration of the stamps’ release takes place in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 10—the Marine Corps’ 230th anniversary. Gen. Michael W. Hagee, Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, and Postmaster General John E. Potter will join relatives of the honored men, as well as Marines who served with them, for a special free event.

The Marine Corps Band and country music star Aaron Tippin will perform. Attendees will receive a free first-day-of-issue collectible souvenir program with a Distinguished Marines commemorative postage stamp bearing the official Washington, D.C., first-day-of-issue postmark. Another dedication ceremony will take place at California’s Camp Pendleton at 8 a.m. PT, outside the Semper Fit Paige Fieldhouse.
